4.3. Storyjumper/Pixton
For this activity, students created short comics using Pixton, a digital tool that allows learners to design characters, settings and dialogues. Below you can see one example of the work produced by students in this task.
Organisation of groups
Students worked in small groups of three. This allowed them
to collaborate effectively while ensuring that each student had a role: one
student focused on writing the dialogue, another on designing the characters
and scenes, and the third on organising the sequence of the story.
Sequence of tasks
First, we introduced the topic and analysed a few examples
of simple comic dialogues. Then, students brainstormed ideas and planned a
short story. After that, they wrote a draft of the dialogue and organised the
events of the story. Finally, they used Pixton to create their comic by
selecting characters, backgrounds and speech bubbles.
Learning objectives
The main objectives were to practise writing short dialogues
in English, improve reading comprehension, and develop digital competence.
Pixton helped students achieve these objectives because it provided visual
support and encouraged them to think carefully about what each character would
say in each scene.
Creativity and imagination
Students were encouraged to be creative by inventing their
own characters, choosing different emotions and designing original situations.
The visual elements of Pixton helped them express ideas more freely.
Students’ reactions
Most students enjoyed designing the characters and creating
the dialogues. Some found the platform slightly challenging at the beginning,
but they quickly became comfortable with it.
Improvements for next time
Next time, I would provide more time for the planning stage
and encourage students to add more complex dialogues.
Sharing and evaluation
The finished comics were shared with the whole class through
the blog and a short presentation. Students also gave feedback to each other
and discussed what they had learned during the activity.

"Wow, I am absolutely blown away by this! It is incredible to see how a digital tool like Pixton can bring language to life so vividly. The characters in this comic have so much personality, and the dialogue feels very natural and engaging—I actually found myself wishing there were more panels to read!
ResponderEliminarI particularly loved the choice of the 'classroom' setting; it made the conversation feel so grounded and real. It’s one thing to study grammar in a textbook, but seeing it used to tell a story like this is truly inspiring. Does Pixton allow students to collaborate on the same comic, or did they each work on their own masterpieces? Thank you for sharing such a creative spark from your classroom!"
